Join in the Beacons of Unity. On Thursday evenings until further notice, the Save Saint Pat’s Committee asks you to turn on your porch light to support efforts to save a neighborhood icon, Saint Patrick Church. Parishioners there are asking members of the community to show unity with their efforts to keep open St. Patrick Church as opposed to merging with Ascension and Annunciation in a consolidation plan. A merger would mean leaving vacant this beautiful church building on the corner of Rocky River Drive and Puritas Avenue that has been part of the fabric of our community for 160 years. KCDC Executive Director Steve Lorenz has written a letter to the Bishop of Cleveland urging him to reconsider the closing. For more information, check out the Save Saint Patrick Church Facebook page here.

I Buy NEO (Northeast Ohio), a program of the Council of Smaller Enterprises (COSE) has named July 4th through July 11th “Buy Local Week” to encourage northeast Ohio residents to purchase goods from regional vendors. Within the week, consumers are being asked to redirect $100 to locally owned businesses. Shoppers are encouraged to logon to www.ibuyneo.com to complete a pledge form. Here they will also be able to download COSE’s “100 Ways to Buy Local” which effectively details how small changes in spending can make a huge difference. If everyone in Northeast Ohio redirects $100 to a locally owned business, the local economic impact would reach approximately $48 million, creating jobs and many other opportunities for the region.
