Plans are turning into action! Construction begins on the Lorain Avenue Streetscape Improvement Project this month and will continue through next spring, culminating in a gala ribbon-cutting event at the Kiwanis Independence Day Parade next summer. This project includes the removal of all overhead power lines and associated poles, new sidewalks, benches, planter boxes, and other amenities in our "downtown" area. New historically accurate light posts will be installed, as well as new decorative traffic light mast poles. See details in on our website.
A new football field will be built at Gunning Recreation Center. On August 25th, a ground breaking ceremony was held with Mayor Frank G. Jackson and Councilman Martin J. Keane heralding the awarding of a grant from the NFL that will fund the installation of a new football field including goal posts, bleachers, and an expanded parking lot. Construction will begin immediately and the field will be ready next summer. Cleveland’s most scenic and challenging 5-mile race and 2-mile fun run or walk takes place on Sunday morning, September 21st. The event raises money to honor the memory of West Park police and firefighters who have died in the line of duty and whose names are etched on the memorial set in the Memorial Walkway along the west side of Rocky River Drive. Join your neighbors and friends who are making this lasting tribute possible. Visit the Heroes Run web site.
Save the Date for Wine in the Holidays! On Thursday, December 4th, plan to join us for our fifth annual KCDC fundraiser at Puritas Nursery, 19201 Puritas Avenue, in Cleveland. Stroll among the huge assortment of holiday wreaths, poinsettias, and gifts before tasting six wines, specialty beers, and sumptuous appetizers. Enjoy live music by Brand New Hat.
