Annual Town Meeting
Join your neighbors and friends at our Annual Town Meeting—7 PM Thursday, June 5th at Saint Joseph Academy, 3430 Rocky River Drive. Our featured speaker will be Dr. Woodrow Whitlow, Director of NASA Glenn Research Center on the occasion of NASA’s 50th anniversary in Cleveland. A Kamm’s Corners resident, Dr. Whitlow is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the activities required to accomplish the missions assigned to the center. Other speakers will include Ward 21 councilman Martin J. Keane. KCDC Executive Director Steve Lorenz will offer updates on current neighborhood projects and future plans.
There will be giveaways at the end of the evening, including Cleveland Indians tickets and gifts from area merchants. The Bob Bohr Award for Community Safety will be presented along with Community Improvement Awards and more.
You won’t want to miss this feature-packed once-a-year event.
The Kamm’s Corners Farmers Market will return June 8th with fresh produce, cheese, honey, meat, coffee, and lots of other food and fun! The market will continue every Sunday from 10 AM to 2 PM through October. A perennial exchange takes place on opening day. To participate, simply divide your plants and bring them to the market to exchange with other participants.
Opening day entertainment includes a musical performance by Brand New Hat. Gary Richmond, chef/co-owner at Johnny Mango will be offering a cooking demonstration at 12:30 PM. Additionally, Yester Year Horse & Carriage will offer rides for only $1!
Anytime Fitness the world’s first 24-hour fitness, tanning, and reciprocal membership franchise, invites you to its grand opening in the Warren Village Shopping Center, Tuesday, April 29, from 4 PM to 7 PM. Tour the facility and enjoy refreshments prepared by Warren Village Shopping Plaza merchants, K&K Portage Market, Subway, Dairy Queen, and Giant Eagle. Enter your name for a chance to win one of three, 3-month memberships in a drawing to take place at 7 PM. Winners need not be present. Said Senior Partner Stephen Rising, “We are honored to have our councilman, Martin Keane, accompanied by our neighbor from the ward across the street, City Council President, Martin Sweeney joining us to slice and dice the grand opening ribbon.” Why not stop at Anytime Fitness, 3318 Warren Road, that evening or call them at 216-941-1100 for more information.
Asphalt Cinema Moves to the West Park YMCA parking lot. See a free movie under the stars at our popular Asphalt Cinema returning for a sixth season on the third Friday of June, July, and August, but at a new location: 15501 Lorain Avenue in the parking lot behind the YMCA. The move will bring added fun, such as free family swim time at the Y before each movie starts. Also, children may romp in the newly built playground adjacent to the site. Before the movie begins, we’ll offer creative games and activities, a bubble gum blowing contest, and refreshments as in the past, starting at 6:30 PM. The first movie, June 20th, is Bee Movie, rated PG.
As the weather turns mild, you might be tempted to go fishing! If so, visit EJ’s Bait & Tackle at 3847 Riveredge (off Lorain Avenue near the Rocky River Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks). Brothers Erik and Emil Katrinak live in the West Park community and saw a need for just such a shop here. “We’ve been fishing the Great Lakes and surrounding tributaries for 20 years,” said Erik. Plans are underway to organize fishing tournaments and special events. For more information, call 216-889-1561.
The City of Cleveland Department of Aging invites all seniors to the 19th Annual Senior Day on Wednesday, May 14.
