The West Park/Kamm’s Corners Independence Day Parade, presented by the Kiwanis Club of West Park, Inc., steps off from Kamm’s Plaza at 9:30 a.m. sharp on Friday, July 4th. Join your neighbors and friends along the 2-mile long parade route, running from Kamm’s Plaza going east on Lorain Avenue to West Park Road, which curves back to Rocky River Drive. The parade continues south on Rocky River Drive and returns to the plaza. Bring the children and give them each a bag to collect free candy and treats! Foreclosure Prevention Counselors from Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) of Greater Cleveland will be there to meet with you. Small existing and emerging businesses may qualify for a microloan. If you have been unable to secure traditional funding for your small business, come to a FREE workshop about how to prepare and submit a microloan package. Experts from WECO Fund, Inc. Microenterprise Center will be in our community room on Tuesday, July 22nd from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Learn from them about WECO microloans ranging from $500 to $35,000. Details are in this flyer. Celebrate Massage Therapy Awareness Week! Westpark Massotherapy invites you to a health and wellness fair Saturday, July 26th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in their parking lot at 4168 Rocky River Drive, behind the building shared with Setta Trophy. Owner Marilyn Valentino will offer tours of the facility and an introduction to various products and services. Chair massages will be available for a dollar a minute, with the proceeds going to the Kamm's Corners Farmers Market. Also participating will be related therapy and wellness services from the neighborhood such as Anytime Fitness, Time For Change Hypnosis, Kamm's Corners Chiropractic, CPR Ohio, and more. Asphalt Cinema returns July 18 & August 15. Come join us under the stars for family friendly movies here for a sixth season, but at a new location: 15501 Lorain Avenue. The parking lot behind the West Park YMCA becomes the movie theatre where viewers can bring their own lawn chairs and blankets. Surf's Up will be shown in July and Muppet Treasure Island in August. Fun activities begin with free family swim time inside the Y from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Creative games and activities start in the lot at 6:30 p.m. Fritz the Balloonatic will make balloon creatures for the kids from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. A bubble gum blowing contest for all ages begins at 8:30 p.m. The movie begins at dusk. Beverages, popcorn, and snow cones are available for sale. Best of all, the movie and the fun activities are all FREE of charge to you thanks to our Asphalt Cinema sponsor, Fairview Hospital! The Paint Program is well underway. Sponsored by the City of Cleveland's Block Grant fund, the program is administered and implemented in Ward 21 by KCDC as our way of contributing to the beauty of our neighborhood’s homes. Paint Program participants receive vouchers for free paint and prep supplies in exchange for agreeing to follow lead-safe work practices. Paint program applications are available now thru July 31. Our 31st Annual Town Meeting took place on Thursday, June 5th at 7 p.m. Neighbors and friends gathered at St. Joseph Academy to hear our featured speaker, Dr. Woodrow Whitlow Jr. Other speakers included Ward 21 Councilman Martin J. Keane and KCDC Executive Director Steve Lorenz. Both provided updates on current neighborhood projects and future plans. The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra Performed at Impett Park, Saturday, June 28th. Heavy rain moved out of the area in time for a crowd to enjoy a live jazz concert here. The program included sax soloists from St. Joseph Academy and a brief history of jazz, followed by big band music. The orchestra normally charges $30 per ticket for these performances, but this event was FREE thanks to Ward 21 Councilman Martin J. Keane and the City of Cleveland.
