Reduce! Reuse! Recycle! Make a New Year’s resolution to recycle. It’s as easy as 1-2-3! Through February 1st, the City of Cleveland will pick up your live Christmas tree from the curb for recycling. In the spring, the mulch from the recycled trees will be made available to Cleveland residents at no cost, while supplies last. Continue to recycle throughout the year by dropping off your glass, plastic, aluminum, cardboard, and paper at any of the City of Cleveland’s drop-off locations. Call the Cleveland Recycling Hotline for more information at 216-664-3717.

The Kamm’s Corners Streetscape Improvement Project has reached a milestone with the completion of Phase I, the underground duct bank that will carry the electric, phone, and cable lines that used to run overhead on unsightly poles. Phase II, the above ground portion, will be bid in the spring of 2008, and work will begin in the summer of 2008. The project will be complete in 2009. To see a photo of the cable being fed underground, click here.

Public House won Downtown Kamm’s Corners Holiday Lighting Contest for having the best decorated storefront between Dunkin’ Donuts to Charter One Bank along Lorain Avenue. Because shopkeepers outdid themselves this year, choosing a winner was harder than ever! The winner received a framed award and $100 CertifiCheck, redeemable for goods or services at local participating merchants. To see a photo of the group accepting the award, click here.

Looking for a new dining experience in Kamm’s Corners? P.J. McIntyre’s offers lobster bisque all day every day. Yes, the kitchen is now open at this fine Irish pub at 17119 Lorain Avenue. Enjoy the atmosphere, libations, and a great new menu, including Guinness Beef Stew, Bangers and Mash, Fish and Chips, and more. Check out the menu here, and explore the website for scheduled entertainment.

Upstairs from P.J. McIntyre’s, The Brady Campbell Irish Dance School is opening January 28th. Classes are currently full, but a list is forming for fall classes. Telephone 216-941-9311 for more information.

The Images of West Park 2008 Calendar
continues to be available though the West Park Historical Society. Filled with historical pictures and interesting facts about West Park, this is a great way to appreciate our neighborhood's rich history! Only $8 each, with price breaks for larger quantities. Purchase yours today at our office or with this order form.

Pick up A History of John Marshall High School, a retrospective by local historian Ralph Pfingsten. He was a student at the school in the 50’s and taught there from 1966 to 1990. Included in the 233-page book are hundreds of pictures from the archives of the John Marshall Alumni Association. The books are $35 each, including sales tax. Also available is Ralph’s first book (pictured here), From Rockport to West Park, a comprehensive history of West Park, for $45 each, including sales tax. Call 216-252-6559, ext. 1000 to arrange to stop by the office or to have them mailed to you for an additional postage fee.

The O’Malley family has confirmed that their Geppetto’s Pizza & Ribs at Warren Village, which was damaged by fire earlier this year, will reopen by St. Patrick’s Day! Plans currently call for an expansion of both the dining and bar areas, with a fresh design including exposed ductwork and a more “expansive” layout with high ceilings and plenty of plasma screens. It will be great to have them back serving their delicious pizza, ribs, and salad bar!

Coming soon to Warren Village Shopping Center is Anytime Fitness, featuring cardio, weight machines, and tanning beds. Part of a national chain of 500 fitness centers open 24/7, Anytime Fitness is especially great for those who work odd shifts. Look for additional details in the February issue of Kamm's Corners Magazine.
