Annual Town Meeting
Save the date to join your neighbors and friends at our Annual Town Meeting—7 PM Thursday, June 5th at Saint Joseph Academy, 3430 Rocky River Drive. Our featured speaker will be Dr. Woodrow Whitlow, Director of NASA Glenn Research Center on the occasion of NASA’s 50th anniversary in Cleveland. A Kamm’s Corners resident, Dr. Whitlow is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the activities required to accomplish the missions assigned to the center. Other speakers will include Ward 21 councilman Martin J. Keane. KCDC Executive Director Steve Lorenz will offer updates on current neighborhood projects and future plans.
There will be giveaways at the end of the evening, including Cleveland Indians tickets and gifts from area merchants. The Bob Bohr Award for Community Safety will be presented along with Community Improvement Awards and more.
You won’t want to miss this feature-packed once-a-year event.
The Paint Program is underway. Sponsored by the City of Cleveland's Block Grant fund, the program is administered and implemented in Ward 21 by KCDC as our way of contributing to the beauty of our neighborhood’s homes. Paint Program participants receive vouchers for free paint and prep supplies in exchange for agreeing to follow lead-safe work practices. Paint program applications are available now thru July 31. For full program details, click here or contact Chris Frohring at 216-252-6559 ext. 1300.
Does your house need repairing? Let CASH lend a helping hand. Just fill out a simple online form to get started, and they will help you with everything. The current interest rate for home improvement loans is 3.3%. Call 216-621-7350 or visit www.cashcleveland.org.
Community Gardens Yield Growing Opportunity. Are you interested in gardening but don’t have the space or enough sunlight in your back yard? Plots are available in the community garden at Garfield School on the land between West 140th and West 143rd Streets. The Summer Sprouts Program provides some seeds and plants. What you grow is yours to keep. Plot assignments will be made at the end of April. Call community garden member, Sandra Hendrix, at 216-941-9374 to join or for more information.
Farmers Market Fundraiser Update. Last month, Ohio City restaurant Johnny Mango donated to the Kamm’s Corners Farmers Market 20% of their sales from customers who presented a special flyer. Thanks to all who participated! The $329.33 donated will help the Kamm’s Corners Farmers Market continue to be the Sunday tradition people have come to love. Opening day is June 8th. If you were unable to join us at Johnny Mango and would like to send a donation to the farmers market, please mail it to:

Free Comic Books! Carol & John’s Comic Book Shop in Kamm’s Plaza will be giving away free comic books on Saturday, May 3rd between 10 AM and 8 PM for National Free Comic Book Day. Can’t wait? Then stay up late Friday night, and come to the preview event from midnight to 2 AM for a free comic book and other giveaways, including a flyer for the Kamm’s Corners Farmers Market. Call the shop at 216-252-0606 for more information.
Asphalt Cinema Location To Change. Asphalt Cinema will be back the third Friday of June, July, and August, but the location will be changed from the municipal lot behind Walgreens to a new site, soon to be announced. Why? The municipal lot was little known and underused five years ago when we started showing our free movies there. In fact, the movies were a way to call attention to the lot. Now, new thriving businesses in Downtown Kamm’s Corners are keeping the lot full, so it is time for us to move on. The new location for our free movie under the stars will be announced here soon.
Have you read the winter issue of Kamm’s Corners Magazine? It features a color centerfold with photos of the recent storefront renovations in Downtown Kamm’s Corners. If you live in Ward 21 and did not receive Kamm’s Corners magazine in your mailbox and would like to receive it, please e-mail us your name and address at firstname.lastname@example.org. Our next magazine is scheduled for distribution in mid-May. See recent issues of the magazine here.
